Housing Solutions to Migrant Homelessness: Partnership Approaches

Claire Donovan of End Furniture Poverty discussed recent research which uncovered the low number of social landlords offering essential items with tenancies, and recommendations for the future.
Peter Gill of Citizen Housing shared his organisation’s experience of providing properties that are ‘move in’ ready, both from a social and commercial perspective.
Preventing Evictions into Homelessness Workshop

A virtual workshop focusing on Homes for Cathy commitment #4, exploring how members can prevent evictions into homelessness. Our three speakers included Jennie Bibbings of Shelter Cymru on the charity’s newly published research in this area, Sue Dickinson, Business Improvement Facilitator at Wales & West Housing, on how they achieved just one eviction last year from 20,000 residents and Simon Young, Head of Landlord Services at South Yorkshire Housing Association, on how a cultural shift has helped them drive down evictions to single figures.

South & South West Region Housing & Homelessness Worskhop

An online working hosted by Homes for Cathy member BCHA united housing associations, local authorities and charities from across the South and South West to explore a joined up approach to ending homelessness and meeting the challenges of the Homes for Cathy commitments, including meeting the needs of vulnerable tenant groups. Attendees heard from Gary Wallace, public health specialist at the Plymouth Alliance; Judith Vickress of the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance; and Faye Greaves of the Centre for Homelessness Impact.
Build More Social Homes Workshop

Polly Neate, CEO of homelessness charity Shelter, gave an insight into Shelter’s ‘Building Our Way Out’ report, which sets out recommendations for how the government can kick-start the economy, create jobs and level up housing inequality by building more decent social rented homes that people on low incomes can afford.
