Thursday 10 October 2024 is World Homeless Day, an international day providing a platform to advocate for improved policies and funding that can help prevent and end homelessness. 

At Homes for Cathy, we believe that housing associations are critical to ending homelessness.

That’s why we are calling on our members to join us on World Homeless Day to celebrate the positive impact that housing associations can have on the lives of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

We aim to shine a light on the policies, practices and provision our members have in place to tackle homelessness – whether that’s removing barriers and ensuring flexibility around acceptances and allocations, supporting tenants to maintain at risk tenancies, providing the essentials for new tenants to make their property a home or working in partnership with local authorities and other stakeholders to deliver housing and homelessness services.

Together, let’s lobby and inspire others – both in our own sector and in Government – to end homelessness.

How can I get involved?

• Publish an article about how your organisation is meeting the Homes for Cathy voluntary commitments – see this example from emh for inspiration.
• Prepare a blog or video about a homelessness policy or service your organisation is proud of – tip: use our commitments as a starting point and highlight how the policy or service is tackling a particular homelessness issue.
• Share stories of residents you have supported to prevent homelessness.
• Invite a local MP or councillor to visit one of your homelessness services – use it as an opportunity highlight local homelessness figures and the vital role your organisation is playing to address homelessness in your area.
• Take photos of colleagues posing with our World Homeless Day supporter boards – complete this form and we will send one in the post.
• Share articles, blogs, case studies and photos on your social media platforms – don’t forget to use the hashtag #WorldHomelessDay and tag @homesforcathy
